Dhamra Port observes National Maritime Day

Dhamra, 07.04.2025: National Maritime Day is celebrated annually on April 5th to honour India’s rich maritime heritage and the vital role the maritime sector plays in national trade and security. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the importance of the maritime sector in India’s trade, economy, and security.  The history of the day goes back all the way back to the year 1919 when our nation was still under British rule. On 5th Apr in 1919, the first Indian flagged ship MV SS Loyalty made her maiden voyage from Bombay to London. The ship was owned by Scindia Steamship Company. However, it was only in the year 1964, when the Indian flagged vessels touched 1 million gross registered tonnage (GRT), when the Government notified 5th Apr as the National Maritime Day. On the occasion of the National Maritime Day, every year Dhamra port celebrates the entire week leading to 5th Apr as the Maritime Week.

Various stakeholders of the industry, our valued customers, seafarers are felicitated for their unwavering commitment to the industry. This year the week was marked by various events as enumerated below: An inter-departmental cricket tournament, Quiz competition.

Badminton tournament for ladies and gents, Cricket match between marine department and our valued agents, Gala dinner for all senior officers of the port, vessel officers and crew, Customs & Immigration officers, Musical night, felicitation and award ceremony followed by for all our valued agents in the presence of Capt. DK Mohanty (ex CMD Dredging Corp of India), and Mr. P C Majhi, MMD surveyor, DG Shipping, Grand dinner for all tug crews, mooring crews, security watchmen, marine police, Essay and debate competition was organized at Adani DAV public school, Students from Govt school were given a tour inside the port followed by lunch.
