Bhubaneswar:14/3/25: The Odisha government has constituted a high-level committee to oversee the planning and execution of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project, informed Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Friday.

The committee will conduct detailed studies and assessments to ensure the project’s feasibility and smooth implementation.

Speaking about the progress of the metro project, Minister Mahapatra revealed that discussions are underway regarding the operational framework and execution strategy. The financial viability of the project is a key focus area, with a comprehensive review being conducted to assess funding requirements and economic feasibility.

The high-level committee is tasked with evaluating various aspects of the project, including route planning, infrastructure enhancements, and best practices from other cities with operational metro systems. The committee has been visiting cities across India to study successful metro networks and incorporate their learnings into the Bhubaneswar project.

Key areas under discussion include metro route design, which focuses on identifying the most efficient and accessible routes to cater to the city’s transportation needs. Additionally, the committee is assessing necessary modifications to existing infrastructure to accommodate the metro system. Insights from established metro networks are also being leveraged to ensure optimal planning and execution.

The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project aims to provide a modern, sustainable, and efficient public transport system, addressing the city’s growing traffic congestion and improving urban connectivity. The state government is committed to completing all necessary assessments and studies before proceeding to the construction phase.
