Kinoteka Polish Film Festival 2024: An Immersive Celebration of Polish Cinema in New Delhi

New Delhi14/12/24:The Kinoteka Polish Film Festival 2024, a much-anticipated annual cinematic event, is set to take audiences on a captivating journey into the dynamic world of Polish cinema. Scheduled to run from December 16-18, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre, this festival, organized by the Polish Institute in New Delhi, is a testament to the rich storytelling heritage and vibrant cultural legacy of Poland.

This year’s festival shines a spotlight on biographical cinema, a genre that has emerged as a cornerstone of Polish filmmaking. Exploring themes of personal and societal struggles, the festival features three thought-provoking films that delve into the lives of extraordinary Polish figures:

  • Simona Kossak (2024) – Directed by Adrian Panek, this Climate Award-winning film pays tribute to the life and legacy of ecologist Simona Kossak, intertwining her advocacy for nature with urgent ecological themes.
  • Kulej: All That Glitters Isn’t Gold (2024) – Xawery Żuławski’s poignant portrayal of Jerzy Kulej, the iconic Polish boxer and two-time Olympic champion, reveals the duality of his triumphs and personal challenges. The film won the Golden Kangaroo for Best Film at the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
  • My Nikifor (2004) – A masterpiece by acclaimed director Krzysztof Krauze, this tender narrative about self-taught artist Nikifor Krynicki offers a profound exploration of creativity, resilience, and the human spirit.

The Kinoteka Polish Film Festival 2024 will open on December 16 at 6:30 PM with the screening of Simona Kossak at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre. The event will commence with a welcome address by Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Director of the Polish Institute.

This festival offers cinephiles in New Delhi a rare opportunity to engage with the artistry and storytelling of Polish cinema, reflecting on the remarkable lives and enduring struggles of its subjects. For three days, audiences will be transported into the heart of Poland’s rich cultural and cinematic traditions.
