Winter Session of Odisha Assembly Adjourned Sine Die

Bhubaneswar:11/12/24:Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the Winter Session of Odisha Assembly sine die on Wednesday. The winter session, which began on November 26, was scheduled to continue till December 31. But the House was adjourned about 20 days ahead of schedule today.

As per the Assembly Secretariat, the winter session was scheduled to continue till December 31, but the House has been adjourned due to a lack of official business to transact.

In the current session, the GST Bill, Odisha Investment (No. 2) Bill, and Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024 have been introduced and passed. However, the government had introduced the Odisha University Amendment Bill-2024 in the House but failed to discuss and pass this bill in the current session due to opposition from BJD MLAs and some other reasons.

The House was in session for 12 days, but only 7 of them were working days. The House was adjourned for 2 days for the All-India DG Conference in Bhubaneswar. In the current session, 24-starred questions were discussed in the House, while 1750-starred questions were answered in writing by the government

In addition, the government has also given written answers to 2191 of the 2295 un-starred questions of the MLAs. 6 adjournment motions moved by the opposition were discussed, while 2 adjournment motions were rejected.

In the current session, 10 private members’ bills, including 8 CAG reports, have been introduced in the House.

On the other hand, the two major opposition parties failed to raise the issue effectively in the House. Even amidst chaos from the opposition parties, the ruling party has been able to conduct the current session quite smoothly.

The BJD has been making an uproar in the House about the dharna of Mission Shakti Women in the capital for the last two days, but it seems that the government has not given much importance to it.
