Among the highlights was the announcement of Konyak, a feature film selected for the prestigious Screenwriters’ Lab. Following its selection at the NFDC Screenwriters’ Lab 2024, Konyak has garnered unprecedented attention. The film’s script has inspired a major ₹100 crore production, backed by film producers.
Written by Uddhav Ghosh, ‘Konyak’ is Pankaj Kumar’s feature directorial debut. Best known for his visually immersive work in ‘Tumbbad’ as a cinematographer, Pankaj Kumar this time brings his storytelling expertise to ‘Konyak’. Expressing his excitement about the film, he stated, “Konyak is more than just an action story; it’s a visceral exploration of Nagaland’s legends, community, and unforgiving terrain. With this film, we aim to craft a cinematic experience that breathes life into the untamed spirit of its setting.”
With a script mentored by international expert Claire Dobbin, ‘Konyak’ shined as a powerful cinematic journey that blends cultural depth with universal themes of survival, honor, and redemption. Screenwriters’ Lab mentor, Claire praised the script, calling ‘Konyak’ “a compelling story of betrayal, courage, and resilience that shines a light on a little-known but unforgettable people, the Konyak.” The Lab provided the platform for Uddhav Ghosh to deepen his narrative, blending action with folklore and magic realism while staying rooted in the historical and cultural context of the region. With its blend of rich cultural heritage, magical realism, and a compelling storyline, the film promises to captivate audiences worldwide, further highlighting the crucial role of initiatives like Film Bazaar in elevating Indian cinema to global standards.
