“People’s Manifesto 2024” Released by Odisha Shramajeebee Manch & Mahila Shramajeebee Manch

Bhubaneswar, May 7, 2024: The Odisha Shramajeebee Manch (OSM) and Mahila Shramajeebee Manch Odisha (MSMO), two state-level people’s collective actively working across 17 districts with 21 member groups, have jointly unveiled the “People’s Manifesto” ahead of the 2024 general elections. This manifesto outlines various key demands and initiatives aimed at addressing the concerns of marginalized sections of society.

Representatives from Tribal, Dalit, and backward communities, along with women, participated in the formulation of this manifesto, which prioritizes issues such as employment generation, long-term agricultural planning, access to safe and clean drinking water, universal and quality education, affordable and nutritious food supply, provision of subsidized cooking oil and pulses, social security, gender equality, land and housing rights, decentralization through the Panchayati Raj, human rights, youth employment, and transgender rights, among others.

The press briefing emphasized ensuring the active participation of the general public in the electoral process, holding political parties more accountable, and appointing elected representatives who would actively work for the welfare of the people and advocate for the manifesto’s objectives.

Mr. Anjan Pradhan, the convener of Odisha Shramajeebee Manch(OSM), highlighted that this manifesto reflects the people’s collective aspirations and demands, backed by extensive discussions, research, and mutual consultations. Ms. Shanti Bhoi, the chairperson of Mahila Shramajeebee Manch Odisha (MSMO), echoed the sentiment, affirming that the elected political parties must prioritize and address the concerns outlined in the manifesto for inclusive development.

Following the elections, elected representatives of the political parties, along with our “People’s Manifesto,” will be closely followed up, and we will ensure relentless advocacy through legal means and media platforms, emphasized Mr. Dasarathi Naik, the president of Odisha Shramajeebee Manch(OSM).
