Narendrapur:16/3/24:Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) plant observed the 53rd National Safety Week 2024 with great fervour. This week-long celebration commemorates the Foundation Day of the National Safety Council and the inaugural National Safety Day (NSD) Campaign launched in 1972. This year, the theme resonates with the company’s commitment to sustainable practices – “Focus on Safety Leadership for ESG (Environment Social Governance) Excellence”.
The safety week commenced with a safety flag hoisting ceremony and a solemn safety oath administered by Chief Guest, Rajesh Agrawal, Chief Power Systems – TSM, in the presence of Guest of Honour, Rakesh Kumar, Chief Mechanical Maintenance -SMU and other senior executives of TSM. The leadership emphasised the National Safety Week’s objectives to foster and fortify the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture within the workplace.
Throughout the week, a wide range of programmes were organised to engage all employees contractors and workers of TSM in the safety campaign. These include daily safety quizzes, departmental meetings with On-the-Spot quiz competitions, and Inter-divisional competitions to encourage collaboration, hazard hunts, safety slogans, safety reels/videos, essay competitions, and emergency mock drills were also organised to enhance preparedness and communication. Also, community safety programmes for homemakers and a drawing competition for kids were organised to promote safety beyond the workplace. Similarly, health awareness programmes were organised in the concluding day of the week, emphasizing well-being and a culture of safety.
Ved Prakash Thakur, Chief Shared Services, TSM graced as Chief Guest in the concluding ceremony and awarded the winners of various competitions in a function.
