Padm organised Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route curated by Falguni Bhatt

❖ Sakshi Ruia will launch Padm, a new platform for contemporary
sculptural art at Bikaner House.

New Delhi: 2/1/24:: Padm is delighted to share their launch and upcoming exhibition Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route curated by Falguni Bhatt opening in New Delhi on 30 January 2024.

Padm was founded this year by Sakshi Ruia and is India’s first curated platform for contemporary sculptural art. From ceramic to wood to metal, Padm aims to provide a transparent representation of an otherwise ignored medium and a space at the intersection of art and design. Padm was born from a shared vision of discovering sculptural art and making art accessible through its founding pillars – the artists who shape the material into stories and the community who connect with their stories. Fostering growth by pushing boundaries across disciplines and materiality, Padm hopes to be a nurturing ground for emerging sculptors in India.

The exhibition, Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route commences the platform’s journey with an expansive curation of artworks by emerging artists who show promise in the field of sculpture. The ambitious curation combines works by promising young and emerging contemporary artists with compelling practices that hold a light to the future of sculptural art. The exhibition is a panoramic view of various ceramic and stone practices with the impressive Bikaner House as a backdrop.

The show’s title, Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route, references the Silk Road. The exhibition aims to encapsulate the historical significance and cultural exchanges that defined the Silk Road. In the context of the exhibition, Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route celebrates the cultural heritage of the Silk Road by depicting its multifaceted history through art. It is a contemporary homage to the civilizations, stories and exchanges that shaped the ancient trade route. Sakshi Ruia explains, “Padm was born from a yearning to create a space and audience for artists exploring and pushing the boundaries of sculptural art as a part of the new design world. At Padm, our prerogative is to set the stage for an artist’s creativity to unfold and provide contemporary art and design experiences for all.”

About Padm

Padm was founded in 2024 by Sakshi Ruia, as a natural progression of her and her family’s contribution and patronage to the arts. It is India’s first curated platform for contemporary sculptural art. Nestled at the intersection of art

Sakshi Ruia is the Founder and Director of Padm. After majoring in Economics and Psychology at Lady Shri Ram College, she completed a Master in Marketing from London Business School. Driven by her sense of objectivity and progressive ideas, she has set out to build a platform to empower artists and cater to new audiences. Her raison d ‘être is to be able to support the new generation of artists working with different sculptural materials and giving them a canvas for reinstatement while helping the growing body of art patrons to be able to evince their values through this expressive milieu.

Falguni Bhatt is an alumnus of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. She completed BFA and MFA from The Faculty Of Fine Arts and remains an integral part of the arts fraternity of the university. Credited with several distinguished solo shows at home and abroad, she has received Awards among them the IAFACS award, All India Mini Sculpture award, National Scholarship, and Junior Fellowship from The Ministry of Culture, India, and has curated several international ceramic residencies. Falguni is also the co-founder of the Indian Ceramic Art Foundation and AFSA Fired Art Kolkata, an initiative to promote artists of fired arts in the Eastern Zone. She lives and works in Kolkata.
