Eminent singer, lyricist, and music composer Swarup Nayak breathed his last

Cuttack: 27/10/23:Eminent singer, lyricist, and music composer Swarup Nayak breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack on Friday. He was 78.

According to sources, Nayak has been suffering from throat cancer for the last several days.

Born on February 8, 1946, he made a foray into Ollywood as a child artist in 1962 with the film ‘Jayadeb’. He became a music director with ‘Hira Nila’. He also penned several memorable songs. Some of his notable film credits include Sahara Jaluchi (1998), Sundura Nuhein Khela Ghara (2002), I Love You (2004), Premi No. 1 (2009), and Swayamsiddha (2010).

Mu Tumaku Bhala Paye and Chalire Tora Padma Phute are among his popular songs and compositions. He also showcased his versatility as an actor in ‘Premi No.1’ and ‘I Love You’.

Film director and popular lyricist Sarada Prasanna Nayak and Odisha’s first female director Parbati Ghosh were his siblings.

Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Swarup Nayak and said; “I am saddened to know about the demise of Swarup Nayak. His unique music compositions will always remain special in the hearts of the listeners. He will be remembered forever for his valuable contribution to enriching the world of Odia cinema.”

“I had spoken to him when he was undergoing treatment. He was not only a music director but also a lyricist and actor. He introduced several new singers and actors in the industry. His contribution to the film industry is immense,” said music director Premanand.
