Phulbani5/8/23:: Scores of irate locals set Phiringia Police Station on fire alleging involvement of police personnel in Ganja peddling and nexus with mafia.
According to sources, hundreds of agitators resorted to vandalism and set the police station in Phiringia on fire alleging involved of police in the ganja trade and demanding actions against the IIC Tapan Kumar Nahaka and two other police personnel.
Sources said the computers, documents, furniture, vehicles etc. were completely burnt in the fire and the police had to open blank firing to disperse the angry mob.
While the situation remains tense at Phiringia, locals have also blocked the road as result which hundreds of vehicles are parked on both sides of the road connecting Phulbani to Baliguda.
If sources are to be believed, last night the locals had intercepted a Bolero car smuggling ganja near Masiri Padal Chowk and upon enquiring they came to know that the vehicle belongs to Phiringia police station.
Fumed over the nexus between the ganja mafia and the police, torched the police station today. SDPO and some other police personnel reportedly sustained injuries after being attacked and thrashed brutally by the mob.
