Floodwater Enters Bhattarika Temple :Authorities shifted the presiding deity to a safe place

Cuttack:2/8/23: Floodwater from the Mahanadi River entered Maa Bhattarika Temple in Badamba area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.

The river has been swelling following incessant rain for the past three days under the influence of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

As the floodwater submerged the temple premises and the water level in the Mahanadi continued to rise, the temple authorities shifted the presiding deity to a safe place at a higher location, according to sources.

As floodwater was found entering the sanctum and sanctorum of the temple, the servitors and managing committee took immediate steps to shift the deity to the flood shelter center at Ratnagiri.

It may be noted here that incessant rain on the upper reaches of the River Mahanadi has inundated vast landscapes of a number of districts while flood situation is feared in the lower catchments.
