Angul :3/7/23:In an effort to combat deforestation and promote environmental conservation, Nabakrushna Choudhury College of Teacher Education, Angul (NKC CTE) in collaboration with “We Navodayans” organized a highly successful plantation drive on 03rd July, 2023. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the community, with participants actively taking part in the initiative. The plantation drive, held at NKC CTE, Mishrapada, Angul aimed to increase the green cover in the campus area and raise awareness about the importance of trees for a sustainable environment. Students, staff of NKC CTE and locals gathered early in the morning at the designated site to contribute their efforts towards a greener future.
Under the guidance of experienced environmentalist Shri Sampad Sahoo, the participants planted a diverse range of trees that were carefully selected to thrive in the local climate and soil conditions. The event provided an opportunity for people to connect with nature and understand the significance of tree plantation in the monsoon season in mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity. Principal Dr.Droupadi Patel inaugurated the program by planting a Neem Sapling, Dr. Pratyusha Ranjan Sahoo, Student Council Advisor and Coordinator IQAC coordinated and led the event and assure for the proper and healthy growth of the plants.
The enthusiasm and dedication of the participants were evident as they diligently prepared the soil, planted Neem, Ashoka, Bael, Delonix, Aonla, Spanish Cherry saplings, placed vermicompost with fertilizers and ensured proper care and maintenance for the newly planted seedlings. Members of the Student Council Mr. Pradyumna Sahoo, Miss Soumyashree Dash, Mr Rakesh Kumar Pradhan, Mr Debabarata Moharana and other students expressed their commitment to nurturing the trees and monitoring their growth in the coming months.
Mrs Madhusmita Bishi (Deputy Collector), Mrs Jayanti Pradhan, Shri Shantanu Kumar Nandi, CA Rudra Narayan Satapathy,Shri Soumya, Shri Jaya Kishan, Dr. Pratyusha Ranjan Sahoo, Shri Swetajit Sahoo, Shri Satyajit Rout and Shri Sampad Sahoo the driving force behind the event, expressed gratitude to all the participants and volunteers, and who supported the initiative. “The success of this plantation drive showcases the community’s determination to make a positive impact on the environment,” said Dr. Droupadi Patel. “We believe that each tree planted today is a step towards a greener and healthier future for our community.” said Shri Sampad.
Local authorities also played a crucial role in the success of the event. Their support and collaboration allowed for the smooth execution of the plantation drive, further emphasizing the importance of community partnerships in achieving environmental sustainability. The impact of this plantation drive extends beyond the immediate environmental benefits. It has generated a sense of unity and shared responsibility among community members, fostering a collective commitment to protect and preserve the natural resources of Angul. Moving forward, Nabakrushna Choudhary College of Teacher Education plans to monitor the growth and health of the planted trees and organize follow-up to ensure their long-term survival. They also encourage “We Navodayans” members to actively engage in continue planting initiatives like “Plant for a friend” to further enhance the green cover and create a bond of friendship with the nature. In addition to that Staff and students of NKC CTE angul and Members of WE NAVODAYANS donated 80 plants to natives of Mishrapada and encourage them to plant and take care of the plants. All the staff members of NKC CTE took keen interest and leadership in the event.
With the success of this plantation drive and door to door gifting plants in the quarters, and natives NKC CTE, Angul takes a significant step towards a more sustainable future, inspiring other communities to undertake similar initiatives. It serves as a shining example of how a united effort can create a positive impact on the environment and pave the way for a greener and healthier planet.
