Odisha Government has allocated a whooping Rs 4600 crore under the road development program (RDP) in the State

Bhubaneswar:18/3/23: The Odisha Government has allocated a whooping Rs 4600 crore under the road development program (RDP) in the State in 2023-24 financial year, compared to Rs 1890 crore in the 2022-23 financial year, said Works Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick here on Saturday.
Briefing the press on Budget 2023-24 along with Works Department Principal Secretary Vir Vikram Yadav, the Minister said that the budgetary allocation of Rs 4600 crore will be used in improving 3000 km of roads and nine major bridges under the road development programme (RDP).

The major projects under the programme include six-lane Cuttack ring road, development of Taldanda canal road in Cuttack, four-lane Cuttack-Paradip road, four-lane of Kapilprasad-Jatni road in Bhubaneswar, new 4-lane link road with Parlakhemundi and construction of bypasses at Berhampur, Balangir, Sambalpur and other places, more bridges on Kathajodi river at Trishulia, on Baitarani river at Chandbali, and on Brahmani river at Anandpur and construction of a six-lane road along Daya west canal in Bhubaneswar.

During the last two decades, the total road length maintained by the Works Department has doubled from 16,041 km to 31,317 km. The construction department also constructs and maintains buildings of other departments as well as its own to provide necessary infrastructure in the state.
The State Government will start the second phase of the Biju Expressway providing four-lane connectivity from Berhampur in Ganjam district to Jeypore in Koraput district for about 335 km, the Minister said.
