Orissa High Court rejected former Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena plea seeking quashing of CBI’s FIR and chargesheet against him in the Seashore chit fund scam

Cuttack:6/2/23: In a big jolt to former Balasore MP and BJD leader Rabindra Kumar Jena, the Orissa High Court today rejected his plea seeking quashing of CBI’s FIR and chargesheet against him in the Seashore chit fund scam.

Single judge bench of Justice B P Routray rejected Jena’s plea after listening to arguments of both sides.

Following allegations of Jena’s complicity in the Seashore chit fund scam, the CBI had filed an FIR against him.

The CBI following its investigation, had filed a chargesheet in the court against Jena alleging that the latter had an illegal transaction of ₹ 1.75 crore with the Seashore Group.

CBI’s counsel Sarthak Nayak argued that Jena had provided political protection to Ponzi firm Seashore Group by taking money from it.

On the other hand, Jena’s counsel and senior lawyer Aman Lekhi argued that the former had taken this money as loan from Seashore Group.

The CBI counsel had further argued that since Seashore Group which was registered under the cooperative society laws could only provide loan to its members and not to outsiders and for this the documents of the managing committee were forged
