Odisha government ordered the closure of all schools and colleges from April 23 until further notice

Bhubaneswar:22/4/25: With severe heatwave conditions gripping Odisha, the state government on Tuesday ordered the closure of all schools and colleges starting Wednesday (April 23) until further notice.

The decision was announced by Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari following Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s directive.

Minister Pujari clarified that ongoing examinations will continue as per schedule despite the closure. The order applies to both government and private educational institutions, with strict action promised against private institutions failing to comply.

However, the minister assured that hostel boarders need not vacate their hostels.

The announcement comes as temperatures soared across the state, with Jharsuguda recording 44.8°C by 2:30 pm on Tuesday. Other severely affected areas included Sambalpur (44.2°C), Hirakud (44°C), and Rourkela (42.2°C).
