Bhubaneswar:3/4/25:The safety and security of tourists are critical for any destination aiming to enhance its appeal among visitors. Recognizing this, an increasing number of countries are establishing dedicated Tourist Police units to safeguard the interests of travelers. A well-structured and comprehensive training program for Tourist Police plays a pivotal role in enhancing the effectiveness and professionalism of law enforcement personnel tasked with ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists.
As global tourism continues to expand, destinations worldwide are prioritizing robust security measures to foster a safe and welcoming environment for travelers. In this context, a specialized training programme for Odisha Tourist Police has been launched to address the unique challenges and responsibilities associated with this specialized domain of law enforcement.
The programme is organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The seven-day intensive training was inaugurated on April 3, 2025, by Shri Soumendra Priyadarshi, IPS, Additional Director General (Modernization), Odisha Police, in the esteemed presence of Prof. Md. Sabir Hussain, Nodal Officer and Centre Head, IITTM Bhubaneswar, and Prof. (Dr.) Adyasha Das, Chairperson, Training.
In its first phase, 40 designated Tourist Police officers from eight Tourist Police Cells across Odisha have been deputed for training. These include personnel from:

Satapada Tourist Police Cell
Chandrabhaga Tourist Police Cell
Nandankanan Tourist Police Cell
Dhauli Tourist Police Cell
Shree Lingaraj Tourist Police Cell
Gopalpur Tourist Police Cell, Berhampur
Chandipur Tourist Police Cell, Balasore
The inaugural session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. N. Subramaniam, Assistant Professor, IITTM Bhubaneswar.This initiative underscores the commitment of Odisha’s law enforcement and tourism authorities toward fostering a safe, tourist-friendly environment, further strengthening the state’s position as a preferred travel destination.
