Odisha Government has been making significant progress in its fight against corruption under a zero-tolerance policy

Bhubaneswar:26/3/25: The Odisha Government has been making significant progress in its fight against corruption under a zero-tolerance policy aimed at eliminating unethical practices. With corruption often described as a “cancer” to society, the government’s unwavering commitment is yielding remarkable results across the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, at the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, said that since June 2024, sweeping actions have been taken to hold corrupt officials accountable. Over this period, 173 cases have been filed against 312 individuals, leading to the arrest of 156 persons implicated in various corruption charges. The vigilance department has been actively conducting investigations, submitting charge sheets in 297 cases, and achieving convictions in 82 instances involving 123 accused individuals. In a bold move, 11 public servants have faced dismissal following court verdicts, demonstrating the administration’s dedication to fair justice.

The government’s efforts have extended to confiscating illicit assets from individuals found guilty of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income. Assets worth Rs 131.9 crore have been seized through 53 cases against 97 individuals. The administration has also allocated Rs 133.37 crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year to strengthen the vigilance directorate, ensuring resources for combating corruption effectively.

Odisha’s approach is not just limited to punishment but also focuses on creating a culture of fear for wrongdoers. The government’s focus is to instill accountability and transparency within public offices. Citizens have welcomed the changes and are encouraged to report corruption-related activities, assuring them of government action.

With reinforced measures and active involvement from the public, Odisha sets itself on the path toward becoming a developed and corruption-free state, striving to uphold integrity and transparency as pillars of governance.
