IIT Bhubaneswar bags award for for outstanding performance in Plantation

Bhubaneswar, 21st March 2025: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has received the award for best Educational Institute in Bhubaneswar sub-division for outstanding performance in Plantation / Afforestation for the year 2025. The award was conferred on the Institute during the occasion of District level celebration of World Forestry Day, held at the Divisional Forest Office, Khordha on 21st March 2025. This year, this day is celebrated with the theme ‘Forests and Food’.On behalf of the Institute, Shri Bamadev Acharya, Registrar, and Shri Kamireddy Visweswara Reddy, Horticulturist received the award from Ms. Poornima Pandian, Divisional Forest Officer, Khordha. More than 50,000 plants so far, including different avenue plants, fruits, shrubs, and hedge types of plants, in addition to the already existing greenery and natural bounty of the area
To spread awareness about the plants in campus, the Institute has started an initiative to post Identification Boards (including the names of the plants in Odia, Hindi, and English, along with a QR Code with detailed information about the plant). As part of Mission “LiFE” and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign, IIT Bhubaneswar has encouraged the villagers of its 5 adopted villages (Arugul, Podapada, Kansapada, Khudupur and Padanpur) for plantation and conservation of nature. Student volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) carry out plantation and sapling distribution programs in these villages on different occasions to promote the culture of plantation among the villagers.
