Senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati was suspended from the State Assembly for seven days

Bhubaneswar:11/3/25: Senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati was suspended from the State Assembly for seven days by the Speaker for his unruly behavior in the House.

The Government’s chief whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan proposed Bahinipati’s suspension due to his indiscipline in the House. After considering the matter, Speaker Surama Padhy took action against him.

In protest of his suspension, Bahinipati’s party colleagues in the Assembly staged a dharna, wearing black bands over their mouths, in the House. The BJD also protested the suspension and staged a walkout.

BJD MLA Arun Sahoo said that their party demands withdrawal of suspension. They would meet the Speaker tomorrow, appealing her to revoke the suspension and run the House in an impartial manner.

Meanwhile, Bahinipati staged a dharna in the well of the House protesting action against him. Speaker Padhy directed the marshals to keep him out of the Assembly for seven working days.

This action was taken after the Jeypore MLA broke the Speaker’s microphone on Monday, having climbed onto the Speaker’s podium. The legislator also created a significant disturbance in the Assembly today
