Odisha committed to use and production of green energy: Shri Singhdeo

Bhubaneswar: 10/03/2025:Odisha is rich in natural resources. By making proper use of these, renewable energy sources are being developed. The importance of Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in renewable energy is special. Currently, 45 places in Odisha have been identified for PSP projects. Out of which, 10 projects are planned to be implemented by various PSUs at the government level. Except this, some companies have identified some places on their own. The development work of these will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to the companies that apply first, Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment, Energy Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo said in a meeting held today.

In the recent Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, Telangana’s Sangamam Power Project Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Odisha Government for setting up of Pumped Storage Project. The progress of this project was discussed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singhdeo. Inspired by the advice of the Prime Minister of India on the use of clean fuel and green energy, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singhdeo said that Odisha is also committed to the production and use of green energy.

Sangamam Power Project Company has prepared a detailed project report for setting up PSP at Sunki in Koraput district. This project holds a capacity of generating 1000 MW of electricity for 6 hours a day in peak hours with the use of reverse turbine. The company authorities have requested Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singhdeo and other officials to provide single window clearance and other incentives from the Odisha Government for setting up of the project.

The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner Mrs. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Shri Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary, Energy Department Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Managing Director, IDCO Shri Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Director, Sangamam Power Shri Deepak Mathur, Bhaskar Rao.
