Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik made a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government for supporting the Polavaram project

Bhubaneswar:1/3/25: Biju Janata Dal President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Assembly Naveen Patnaik on Friday made a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government for supporting the Polavaram project, which would adversely affect the lives and livelihoods of the tribals of Odisha.

The Polavaram project is against the interests of Odisha. The Central Government is acting against the interests of tribals to protect its political interests, the BJD President said while virtually addressing a massive protest rally against the project, which is being constructed in Andhra Pradesh.

The BJD would continue to fight for protection of tribal interests and support the anti-Polavaram agitation, Naveen reiterated.

The massive protest was organized by Joint Action Committee on Polavaram at Motu in Malkangiri district. It was attended by tribal associations from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

The BJD supremo said that the BJP-led central government is ignoring his party’s demands for justice for tribals.

The Polavaram project was being funded by the Centre to serve the political interests of the saffron party, he said.

Why has the Centre allocated Rs 18,000 crore for the early completion of the Polavaram project, questioned Naveen.

Several tribal villages in Malkangiri district would be submerged due to backwater effect if the project’s water storage capacity is maintained at 50 lakh cusecs, he added.
