Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Odisha has taken a significant step towards boosting its green energy sector with the signing of an agreement between GRIDCO and Avaada Green H2 Pvt Ltd.

This partnership, made under the OERC Green Energy Open Access Regulations, 2023, will establish a Green Power Banking Facility of 300 MW for Avaada’s upcoming 0.5 MTPA Green Ammonia Plant in Gopalpur, Ganjam.

The facility, set to begin in 2028, will ensure a continuous supply of green power for the plant over a 25-year period, marking a key milestone in Odisha’s efforts to become a leader in Green Hydrogen and Ammonia production.

This move is part of the state’s broader strategy to provide reliable renewable energy solutions to support emerging green industries. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted that Odisha has already approved 14 Green Hydrogen and Ammonia projects, attracting an investment of approximately Rs. 2 lakh crore and creating employment opportunities for 22,000 individuals.

He further emphasized that along with water, renewable energy is a critical component in the production of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia.

The state has made every effort to facilitate renewable energy (RE) projects, offering various incentives to developers. Recognizing that RE generation is often intermittent, Odisha has introduced Green Power Banking, which ensures a steady supply of green energy for developers of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia, he said. Singh Deo further stated that Odisha is among the few states in India to offer this facility, ensuring round-the-clock green power availability.
