President Murmu to Confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards

Newdelhi:4/1/25:President Droupadi Murmu will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman during the valedictory session of the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.

This year’s awardees, who represent outstanding achievements within the diaspora across various fields, include Baroness Usha Kumari Prashar from the UK for her contributions to politics and Dr. Sharmila Ford from the US for her community service. Additionally, a couple of institutions will also receive awards.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians by the President of India. It is presented as part of the PBD Convention, recognizing Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), or organizations/institutions established and run by NRIs or PIOs for their exceptional achievements both in India and abroad.

The 18th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is scheduled to take place from January 8 to 10, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The awards will be presented by the Honorable President of India during the valedictory session of the PBD celebrations.

A Jury-cum-Awards Committee, chaired by the Vice-President and including the External Affairs Minister as Vice-Chair, along with other distinguished members from various fields, reviewed the nominations for the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and unanimously selected this year’s awardees, who exemplify excellence achieved by our diaspora.
