Nayagarh:29/12/24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi embarked on a tour to Nayagarh on Sunday to assess the extensive crop damage suffered by farmers due to the recent incessant rains that have lashed the state.
Accompanied by Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, CM Majhi visited several affected areas, including the Kandapada and Majhiakhand gram panchayats in Ranpur Block. The Chief Minister interacted with distressed farmers who showcased their devastated rice crops, critically damaged by the continuous downpour.
During his visit, CM Majhi assured the farmers of prompt compensation and directed the district administration to expedite the assessment of crop loss. “We are committed to providing all necessary support to our farmers during this difficult time. Compensation will be disbursed at the earliest to help them recover from this setback,” Majhi stated.
The Chief Minister also urged farmers to report their crop damage through the designated helpline number to ensure timely assistance. He emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural community and mitigating the impact of natural calamities.
The recent unseasonal rains have affected over 1.26 lakh farmers across Odisha, causing significant damage to paddy, vegetables, and betel crops. The state government has set a deadline of December 30 to complete the identification of affected farmers and initiate the disbursement of compensation through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
The visit to Nayagarh is part of a broader initiative by the state government to assess and address the impact of the rains on various districts, with similar visits planned for Ganjam and Gajapati in the coming days.
