Devotees to Enter Puri Srimandir Only Through Singha Dwara on Dec 31 & Jan 1

Puri:29/12/24:The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has made extensive arrangements at the 12th-century shrine in anticipation of a large influx of devotees to the pilgrim town on December 31 and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2025).

The SJTA has restricted entry for devotees, allowing them to enter the Shree Jagannath Temple only through the Singha Dwara (Lion’s Gate), which is the main gate while permitting exit through all three other gates: the Paschima, Uttara, and Dakshina Dwara.

DIG Central Range Charan Singh Meena and Puri SP Vinit Agrawal held a press briefing at the Reserve Police Ground on Sunday to ensure safe, peaceful, and efficient traffic management on December 31 and New Year’s Day.

The meeting decided to set up barricades from Market Chhaka to the temple to control the crowd. It also emphasized the importance of crowd management both inside and outside the temple and on the beach. Additionally, measures are in place to facilitate a smooth and peaceful bathing experience for visitors at the sea.

The meeting outlined a deployment plan that includes two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), ten additional ASPs, forty Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), seventy inspectors, and two hundred twenty Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and ASI-ranked officials, along with sixty platoons of police forces to maintain order and manage the substantial crowds expected in the city.

Furthermore, a significant number of lifeguards and firefighters will be stationed on the beach to ensure the safety of visitors. Senior police officers, along with patrol officers, will also be deployed at various temples, shrines, and tourist locations throughout the district.

A hundred youth volunteers have been engaged to support the police during peak hours by helping to distinguish between locals and visitors in crowded areas and assisting with crowd control.

On this occasion, Puri SP Mr Agrawal stated, “Those who come to Puri are our guests. Therefore, we will greet these guests at the shrine in a manner that shows our appreciation.”
