Odisha government is set to introduce double-decker electric buses in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:10/12/24: In a significant move towards sustainable urban transport, the Odisha government is set to introduce double-decker electric buses in Bhubaneswar

The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has invited tenders for the procurement and operation of five double-decker electric buses, which will serve the districts of Khordha, Puri, and Cuttack.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote green energy and reduce the carbon footprint of public transportation in the state. The contract for these buses will span ten years, with an option to extend for an additional two years based on the performance and condition of the buses.

According to CRUT, the selected operator will be responsible for the supply, operation, and maintenance of the buses. The buses will be used primarily for tourism purposes, enhancing the travel experience for both residents and visitors.

“This is a major step towards achieving our goal of sustainable and eco-friendly urban transport,” said a CRUT spokesperson. “We are excited to bring these state-of-the-art electric buses to Bhubaneswar and other key areas.”
