Inter-Ministerial Central Team arrived to evaluate the destruction wrought by Cyclone Dana

Bhubaneswar:26/11/24: The Inter-Ministerial Central Team arrived to evaluate the destruction wrought by Cyclone Dana and held discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday.

A seven-member team, headed by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Joint Secretary PK Rai, toured the severely affected districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Balasore on the 24th to assess the extent of the damage.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the need for sustainable infrastructure development in disaster management and support for repairing damages. He noted that Odisha regularly confronts natural calamities such as cyclones and floods. Although the government has been effective in protecting lives, the recurring destruction of infrastructure requires significant financial resources for rebuilding. As a result, there’s a pressing need for disaster-resilient infrastructure. Chief Minister Majhi outlined initiatives such as installing underground power lines in coastal areas, building coastal embankments, and extensive mangrove reforestation. Additionally, he advocated for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Disaster Management Center in Bhubaneswar and urged the Central Government to provide the necessary assistance for these endeavors.

During the discussion, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that creating sustainable infrastructure is key to accelerating Odisha’s economic development.

PK Rai, the leader of the central team, commended the state government for its effective management of Cyclone ‘Dana’.

Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, and Special Relief Commissioner, Deoranjan Kumar Singh were present during the discussion.
