Bhubaneswar:25/9/24: A dedicated Food Inspector will be appointed in Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri to check the quality of Mahaprasad, dry Bhog, and ghee being used in Diyas.

Speaking to media, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed that the department has been requested to appoint a dedicated food inspector to examine the quality of the Prasad and other ingredients used in the Bhogha and others.

“We are trying to ensure that pure ghee is used for the making of prasad and light-up diyas. We want to make sure that products of the highest quality are used in the temple,” he added.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will issue guidelines regarding the quality of ghee and edible items in the temple.

The government’s move comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding the quality of ladoos prepared at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati.

It was alleged that animal fat and adulterated ghee were used for the preparation of ladoo as Prasad at Tirumala temple.
