Bhubaneswar:22/7/24: The first session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly commenced amid tumult, with opposition parties, including BJD and Congress members, executing a walkout during the Governor’s address due to the ‘Odia Asmita’ issue. According to the agenda, the Odisha budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is slated for presentation in the Assembly on July 25. This budget marks the first by the new BJP government in Odisha, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.
The session is set to run until September 13, spanning two phases. It will encompass 27 working days, with the financial plan for 2024-25 being introduced in the House on July 25. During the Governor’s speech, the attack on Aso sparked a dispute in the Assembly. The BJD strongly objected to the incident, with Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik initiating the protest. The Congress demanded the arrest of the governor’s son in response to the attack on Aso.
