Odia actor Arindam Roy Deserts BJD, Joins BJP

Bhubaneswar: 15/3/24:In a fresh jolt to the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), actor-politician, Arindam Roy resigned from the party’s primary membership on Friday and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Arindam, who was holding the post of general secretary and was the star campaigner of the BJD since the 2014 elections, submitted his resignation to party supremo Naveen Patnaik.

Sharing the resignation letter, in a social media post, the actor tagged the Chief Minister and party president Naveen Patnaik, and BJD’s organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das, who happens to be his brother-in-law.

Minutes after tendering his resignation, Arindam joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP Odisha Chief Manmohan Samal and other party leaders at the party’s state headquarters.

Arindam stated that he has been working in the BJD party since 2009, and has been the Star Campaigner since 2014.

“I have been working at the ground level as an observer in various elections In Cuttack, Tirtol, Tirtol by-elections, and Koraput Zilla Parishad & Municipality elections. But with a heavy heart I am very sorry to say that my work has not yet been recognized by you or your appointed members.,” the actor said.

Arinadm also stated that he has been trying to meet the party supremo for quite some time but unfortunately, he did not get the opportunity.

Stating that he feels that he does not fit the criteria for meeting the party president and that his place in the party is nothing, Arindam tendered his resignation from the post of General Secretary of BJD and the primary membership of the party.

“I hope you will understand my situation and not keep any grudge against me,” Arindam concluded with a request to the CM and BJD supremo.
