Bhubaneswar:13/2/24: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has decided to double the cash benefits under the Mamata Scheme. Currently, under Mamata Yojana, pregnant women are being provided Rs 5,000 in 2 instalments.
According to the Chief Minister’s new decision, pregnant women will get Rs 10,000 in assistance. All eligible beneficiaries will get this enhanced amount from August 2023. The outstanding amount will be available to the beneficiaries between the 20th and 25th of this February.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the ‘Mamata Yojana’ in 2011 to reduce maternal & child mortality and malnutrition. The Mamata Yojana is very popular and has been adopted as a model at the national level.
In the Mamata Yojana, the amount of assistance will be directly disbursed to the beneficiary’s bank account in 2 instalments. In the first instalment after 6 months of pregnancy, Rs. 6,000 and in the second instalment after ten months, Rs. 4,000 will be provided.
All pregnant women above 19 years of age can get this assistance for 2 children. It has been decided that the women of 13 Scheduled Tribes will be given maternity allowance for each pregnancy.
It is worth noting that during the district visit of 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman V. Karthik Pandian, women proposed to increase this assistance cash amount. Today, the Chief Minister increased the amount of assistance under the Mamata scheme.
Notably, since the inception of this scheme, more than 60 lakh pregnant and lactating mothers have benefited. For this, the state government has transferred Rs. 2,900 crores to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
For information or complaints about the scheme, call the helpline 181 or contact the nearest Anganwadi Centre, the CMO said.
