Kalahandi University at Bhawanipatna has now become Maa Manikeshwari University

Bhubaneswar:29/12/23: Odisha’s Kalahandi University at Bhawanipatna has now become Maa Manikeshwari University. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday gave his approval to a proposal of the Higher Education Department in this regard.

With his approval, Kalahandi University in Bhawanipatna is renamed as Ma Manikeshwari University. Goddess Maa Manikeshwari is worshipped as the Goddess of Kalahandi district.

During his visit to Kalahandi district in November, the Chief Minister had announced that Kalahandi University would be named after Maa Manikeshwari, the reigning deity of the district.

It may be recalled here that the Odisha government had accorded university status to Bhawanipatna Autonomous College in 2019 by altering the territorial jurisdiction of Sambalpur University under the provisions of Odisha Universities Act. The varsity was then named Kalahandi University.

The University took momentum after the joining of the regular Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Satapathy on April 16, 2021.
