SDTE Dept Collaborates with Tata Power to Empower Youths with Industry

Bhubaneswar: 21/12/23:In a significant collaborative effort, Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Govt. of Odisha collaborated with Tata Power, to empower the state’s youth in presence of Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, SDTE Department at the conference hall,2nd floor, Kharavel Bhavan today.

The primary objective of this initiative is to equip young talent with industry-ready skills through targeted programs, ensuring they are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the power sector.

Padhee in her address reaffirmed the commitment of the Odisha Government to excellence in skill development. She underscored the pivotal role of safety in the training modules and practical sessions for the students aligned with international standards, enhancing the employability and credibility of the workforce in the global market.

The collaboration with Tata Power signifies a step towards producing highly skilled professionals. Reghu G, Director, DTET, and Sanjay Banga, President T & D, TATA Power, signed and exchanged the MoU.

As part of this initiative, these programs are strategically crafted to improve employability, providing students with enhanced placement opportunities within the power sector.

In the first year, Tata Power plans to initiate this program in 20 Government ITIs (5 in each DISCOM), strategically located near the Skill Development Centre. The program will expand to cover additional ITIs in subsequent years. Tata Power in consultation with Directorate of Technical Education and Training, Odisha will develop modules that focus on making students industry-ready. These modules cover essential skills and knowledge required in the power sector.

To provide real-world experience, students will visit DISCOM’s Hands-on Training Centre. This exposure will allow them to gain insights into executing daily tasks safely and efficiently.

Additionally, visits to the network control center, Smart Meter Lab, and 33/11 KV Substation are planned to enhance their understanding of power sector equipment.

Among others, senior officers from the department and TATA Power were present during the program.

Beyond enhancing the skills of Odisha’s youth, this initiative is poised to contribute significantly to the overall development of the power sector in the state.
